PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
(OVERVIEW)

Roger Miller has worked as a commercial photographer in Baltimore for the last twenty-seven years. In his assignments he has photographed everything from the Blue Angels to hot dogs, from Mt. Fuji in Japan to the Champs Elysees in Paris, and everything in Maryland from Muddy Creek Falls in Garrett County to the Boardwalk in Ocean City. Roger is probably best known for the books he has published. His first book on Baltimore was released in 1983. He has since photographed, produced and published twenty-one other books. To date he has sold over 140,000 copies of his books. Roger, through his commercial photography and books, has become an expert on Maryland. With over 550,000 slides on file- a large amount of them on Baltimore and Maryland, he is a major source of stock photography in the region. With the production of a new book on Delaware historic markers in the last couple of years, he has developed a large amount of stunning image of Delaware. At the same time, his travels and assignments have allowed him to develop vast amounts of stock images on Europe, Japan and most regions of the United States and Canada. From approximately 1997 to date, he has also begun to develop great depth of images on the United States military while creating a book on the US Naval Academy and beginning a book on the US Coast Guard Academy. He also started work on a book about the US Coast Guard Barque Eagle and will have some very dynamic sailing photos during 2002.



PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

1972 - 2002
Since 1972, Roger Miller has been the owner, photographer and president of his own business, Roger Miller Photo, Ltd., a Maryland corporation. Mr. Miller began to publish books in 1983 when he founded Image Publishing, Ltd. To date he has published 22 books mostly on areas in the mid-Atlantic region. In March of 2000, he was featured as one of six photographers in a Maryland Public Television production Images of Maryland 1900 to 2000, whose work has had a profound impact on Maryland during the last century.

2002
Roger completed numerous commercial photography assignments. He also finished a book entitled United States Naval Academy Annapolis, with the foreword done by President Jimmy Carter, which will be released in April of 2002. He also finished The Complete Guide to Delaware Historic Markers with a foreword by Governor Ruth Ann Minner, which will be released in June of 2002. Presently he is working on a 4th edition of Baltimore A Portrait and a 5th edition of Maryland A Portrait. Roger has also begun work on a new book on the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a book on the U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle.

2001
During 2001, Roger was involved with numerous photography assignments for an ever greater number of corporate and advertising clients. He was involved with the photography and production of United States Naval Academy Annapolis and The Complete Guide to Delaware Historic Markers book.

2000
This was a very busy year with both a very intense photography schedule and the final production on Annapolis A Portrait, a book on the Maryland state capital with a foreword by Governor Parris Glendening. The book was released in September of 2000 and is his best selling book to date.

1999
He was very busy with numerous commercial assignments and began work on Annapolis A Portrait, 2nd edition.

1998
Roger was involved with numerous commercial assignments. He finished The Complete Guide to Maryland Historic Markers, 1st edition with a foreword by Governor Parris Glendening. He was the photography editor and one of the main photographers in a Towery Publishing book Baltimore Charm City with text by Baltimore journalist, Dan Rodricks.

1997
Roger was involved with numerous commercial assignments and the photography and production of Baltimore Charm City and The Complete Guide to Maryland Historic Markers.

1996
Roger began production of the 3rd edition on Maryland A Portrait and released it to corporate and retail clients in October of 1996.

1995
Roger was very busy with commercial photography assignments and finished the 2nd edition of Maryland A Portrait.

1994
Roger completed numerous commercial assignments. He was also working on the 2nd edition of Maryland A Portrait - to be out 1995.

1993
Roger completed publication of Baltimore A Portrait, 3rd edition.

1992
Roger joined with H. Armstrong Roberts, a stock photography agency in Philadelphia, for worldwide sales of his stock photography. He also joined Frozen Images, Inc. in Minneapolis, Minnesota for mid-western sales of stock photography.

1991
Roger completed publication of Washington A Portrait, 1st edition.

1989
Roger completed publication of Ocean City Captured Memories, 1st edition.

1988
Roger completed publication of Baltimore Captured Memories, 1st edition and Baltimore A Portrait, 2nd edition.

1987
Roger completed publication of Tokyo A Portrait, 1st edition, Annapolis A Portrait, 1st edition, From A Healing Heart, 1st edition, and Maryland A Portrait, An Address Book, 1st edition.

1986
Roger completed publication of Maryland A Portrait, 1st edition and Baltimore A Portrait, An Address Book, 1st edition.

1983
Roger completed the publication of his first book, Baltimore A Portrait, 1st edition

1982
Roger began production of his first book on Baltimore, Baltimore A Portrait. He founded Image Publishing, Ltd. and was the president, photographer, editor, and production coordinator of the book.

1981
Roger joined the prestigious New York stock photo agency, The Image Bank, which represents his stock photos world-wide.

1976
Roger joined ASMP, American Society of Magazine Photographers. In May of 1975, Roger purchased a Hollins Street property and began restoration of an 1860 house. The building serves as an office, studio and residence.

1972
Roger began Roger Miller Photo, Ltd. as the photographer, owner, and president. He completed various commercial assignments for advertising agencies, institutions, commercial artists and corporations.

Roger was Staff Photographer at Taddar Associates, Inc. doing work for numerous clients.


July 1971 - September 1972
Roger was Staff Photographer for Blakeslee Lane Photography, Inc. doing work for a variety of clients.

May 1970 - July 1971
Roger handled independent assignments while completing B.F.A. requirements.

January 1970 - May 1970
Roger was staff photographer with The Cromwell Associates while completing B.F.A. requirements.

Roger was Staff Photographer with Baltimore City Department of Planning while completing B.F.A. at Maryland Institute.
